What are supportive treatments?

Supportive treatments can be given alongside your main cancer treatment to help it work better and to relieve or prevent side effects.

There are many different types of supportive treatments. A few examples are:

  • steroids
  • symptom management (pain, nausea and fatigue)
  • bisphosphonates to strengthen bones
  • blood transfusions
  • psychological support
