Monday 17 June 2024
Ambassador of Maggie's Yorkshire and star of Emmerdale Lisa Riley is joined by fellow cast members in a walk to raise awareness for the centre.
The actors of the hit ITV soap joined people with cancer and their family and friends in Roundhay Park, Leeds, to walk 5 km in support of Maggie’s Yorkshire.
Lisa Riley said: “I am so glad to be supporting Maggie’s Yorkshire. It’s a fantastic charity and the support ĢƵ offers is much needed.
“It’s been lovely to have some of my cast members here with me to support me in raising awareness of this wonderful charity, as it’s a cause close to my heart.
“I’d encourage anyone with cancer or who knows or has lost someone to cancer to come to their nearest ĢƵ centre.
ĢƵ and grief can impact our lives at any time, and the support that Maggie’s offers is so important.
A space for expert cancer support
Maggie’s Yorkshire is a stunning treehouse-inspired building tucked away in the grounds of St James’s University Hospital, Leeds.
Like all our ĢƵ centres, it is run by professional staff, including psychologists, cancer support specialists and benefits advisors.
The centre provides a free programme of support that is proven to help people with cancer and their family and friends take back control after a cancer diagnosis.
Last year alone, ĢƵ Yorkshire provided over 14,000 individual and groups support sessions, supporting thousands of people facing the challenges that cancer brings.
Sadie Munro, Centre Fundraising Manager at Maggie’s Yorkshire, commented: “We are so grateful to Lisa, the cast members of Emmerdale, and all the incredible walkers for taking part in the Walk for Maggie’s.”
